Built-in Image Stabilisation System

When you want to faithfully record a memorably moment or moving scene image stabilisation is an absolute must. The OM-D E-M10 is equipped with in-body image stabiliser to reduce camera shake. This feature lets you enjoy stable shots and is effective with any lens. Additionally, image stabilisation can be checked in the viewfinder and rear screen, making it possible to view shake-free images while composing the shot and focusing.

3-axis In-body VCM Image Stabilisation

The camera is equipped with a smaller version of VCM image stabilisation that is also used by our flagship model E-M1. It boasts high image stabilisation ability (approx. 3.5 steps*). In addition to vertical and horizontal shifts, it also compensates rolling camera shake that cannot be compensated with lens-shift image stabilisation.

VCM

VCM stands for Voice Coil Motor. It directly moves the image sensor with magnetic power.

  • Based on CIPA standards (when used with M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 II R, focal length 42mm (35mm equivalent focal length: 84mm))

Optical Rolling Compensation

By rolling the image sensor, the 3-axis VCM can compensate optical rolling camera shake that cannot be compensated by lens-shift image stabilisation and camera shake at the edges of still images that occurs when the shutter button is pressed during a slow shutter.

  • You can see the effects of the image stabilisation system while the shutter button is half depressed.

The IS-AUTO feature uses the optimal compensation directions based on the camera movement.

1. Image stabilisation / 2. Image stabilisation off

The IS-AUTO mode automatically detects the movement of the camera and compensates in all directions. By doing so, it can perform image stabilisation even for panning shots.

Multi-motion IS effectively compensates camera shake during movie shooting

Multi-mode IS mode is used for movie shooting and it combines the 3-axis VCM IS with electronic image stabilisation. It effectively compensates for strong, slow vertical and horizontal camera shake that tends to occur when shooting a movie while walking.
