Professional high-magnification zoom

The M.Zuiko ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO is a compact zoom lens designed to provide excellent image quality and high-magnification, meeting the demands of professional photographers.

Unrivaled mobility

Excellent image quality required by professional photographers is delivered throughout the entire zoom range, from the 24mm[1] wide angle end to the 200mm[1] telephoto end. The performance of two competitor lenses[2] is packed into this one lens, providing outstanding mobility for the photographer. Wide-angle shots, telephoto shots, macro shots, nightscapes, and movies can all be taken with this one lens.

Optical design that realizes optimal performance and mobility

This lens lavishly uses special lens elements for excellent image quality and high magnification in a compact size.

  1. DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) lens
  2. Aspherical lens
  3. ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens
  4. Super HR (High Refractive Index lens) lens
  5. HR (High Refractive Index) lens
  6. Image stabilising lens
  7. Focus driving lens

Excellent image quality

Four aspherical lenses including a DSA lens are effectively placed to suppress aberrations that may occur when zooming. Five ED lenses suppress colour bleeding that tends to occur at the telephoto end, and secure image quality to the very edges of images throughout the entire zoom range.

Compact, lightweight package

DSA lenses and Super HR lenses are used to keep the number of lenses in the configuration to a minimum. Also, DSA lenses are made of glass with a higher refractive index than previous products, making the lens more compact.

Constant f/4.0 at any focal length

A maximum aperture of f/4.0 is delivered throughout the entire zoom range from wide-angle to telephoto, overturning the conventional wisdom that the telephoto side of a zoom lens is always darker.

The MSC mechanism: what makes high-speed, high-precision FAST AF possible

The MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism is an advanced inner focusing mechanism providing fast, smooth, quiet, and accurate auto-focusing. It is made possible by Olympus high-precision lens fabrication technology which makes the focusing lenses lighter. This not only contributes to the speed and precision of focusing, but also to keeping the lens compact. With Face Detection AF and Eye Detection AF available on Olympus interchangeable cameras, auto-focusing is taken to another level.

Z Coating Nano helps produce clear images

The new Z Coating Nano technology is used on this lens to thoroughly suppress ghosts and flares, providing the photographer with sharp, clear images. By coating the lens surface with a layer of nanoscale-size particles filled with air, a coating layer with a similar refractive index as air is achieved, for reduced surface reflection.

Compatible with 5-axis Sync IS

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO includes an in-lens image stabilisation system, which, when combined with the Olympus camera[3] in-body 5-axis image stabilisation, makes 5-axis Sync IS possible.

World's most powerful stabilisation performance equivalent to 6.5 shutter speed stops

5-axis sync IS achieves 6.5 shutter speed stops[3] of stabilisation performance. On its own, the lens achieves 5 shutter speed stops[4] of stabilisation performance.

Record videos with minimal shake

Using 5-axis Sync IS makes it possible to suppress shaking that tends to occur when recording videos.

1.5-cm working distance for fantastic close-ups

Despite being a high-magnification zoom lens, it possesses incredible close-up shooting capabilities with a working distance of 1.5 cm.

Angle of view Working distance Closest focusing distance Shooting magnification (35mm-equivalent in parentheses)
Wide angle 1.5 cm 15 cm 0.30x (0.60x)
Telephoto 27 cm 45 cm 0.21x (0.42x)

Reliable dustproof and splashproof construction

Hermetic sealing in 12 locations protects against ingress of dust and water droplets, making it possible to shoot in any situation without worry.

Renowned quality and operability of the PRO lens series

The Olympus PRO lens series features both superb design and controls.

Elegant design

The exterior of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO provides a premium feel that only a metal-bodied lens can provide.

Superb controls

  1. Manual Focus Clutch mechanism
  2. IS switch
  3. L-Fn button

Manual Focus Clutch mechanism

The MF (manual focus) Clutch provides instant switching between auto and manual focusing. Simply pull the focus ring toward you to switch from autofocus to manual focus to shoot at your desired focus distance.

IS (lens image stabilisation) switch

This lets you instantly turn image stabilisation on or off.

L-Fn button

On the lens barrel is a customisable button to which a function of your choice can be assigned, via the camera. Once assigned, a simple push of this button will activate and deactivate your function of choice.
