Delivering both the most beautiful bokeh and outstanding resolution.

Beautiful feathered bokeh from the maximum F1.2 aperture

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO delivers beautiful feathered bokeh that blends the image from focused sections to out-of-focus sections and provides a smooth impression to the defocused background, providing more depth to the image by making the subject stand out further.

  • Competitor product of equivalent specifications:
The background tree has some duplicate lines and giving the photo a busy impression.
  • M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO at f/1.2:
The bokeh of the background tree is smooth and adding depth in the picture.

Beautiful feathered bokeh made possible by an ultra-high precision aberration measurement instrument

Beautiful feathered bokeh was achieved thanks to an ultra-high precision aberration measurement instrument developed incorporating high-precision measurement technologies used in advanced microscope development. This measurement instrument was used in research stages to measure the characteristics of historically acclaimed lenses, which would become the base for newly developed lenses. In development stages, the instrument was used to create a lens design that optimizes the level of aberrations, while virtually eliminating all unwanted aberrations.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO adopts a design which intentionally guides light beams passing on the outside edges of the lens to form an image in the foreground, while gradually tilting the lens as the spherical aberration moves towards the outside edge. Intentionally keeping spherical aberrations results in beautiful feathered bokeh.

High resolution from extravagant use of special lenses

Optimal placement of 3 cemented ED lenses effectively correct  unfocused colour bleeding (axial chromatic aberration) common to large-diameter lenses as well as colour bleeding (magnification chromatic aberration) at the screen periphery. Also, an aspherical lens is placed near the aperture and 4 HR lenses are employed to achieve thorough suppression of comatic aberration. The optimal lens placement for a medium telephoto lens results in excellent optical performance that delivers beautiful feathered bokeh and accurate depiction of points even at the widest aperture setting.

Excellent close-up shooting ability

Closest Focusing Distance: 50 cm

This lens has excellent close-up shooting abilities with a closest focusing distance of 50 cm, and shooting magnification of 0.1x (35mm equivalent: 0.2x). You can get closer to subjects to emphasize background bokeh.

Z Coating Nano for clear image quality

1. Air / 2. Nanoparticles / 3. Incident light / 4. Reflected light / 5. Lens / 6. Vapour deposit film

Coating technology is employed which coats the lens surface with a layer of nanoscale size particles that have air in the centre, resulting in a coating with a similar refractive index as air and reduced surface reflection. Ghosts and flaring are significantly reduced for sharp, clear image quality.

Fast & high-precision AF

MSC mechanism making fast and silent AF possible

Despite being a large diameter F1.2 lens, a lightweight focusing unit is made possible via the MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism. A screw drive mechanism is used as the core drive system of the MSC mechanism, and a stepping motor is used as the drive motor.

High-precision AF across all focusing points

On-chip Phase Detection AF used on the OM-D E-M1 Mark II has no light flux limitations, making all-cross AF possible even when a large-diameter F1.2 lens is attached. This provides coverage for the all focusing points to the edges of the image for high-precision focusing.

  • DSLR (Phase detection AF)
Current SLRs are limited to F2.8 light fluxes. Because there is no sensor for focusing at F1.2 light fluxes, AF precision is not guaranteed when a lens brighter than F2.8 is attached.
  • OM-D E-M1 Mark II (On-chip Phase detection AF)
On-chip Phase Detection AF has no light flux limitations, making high-precision focusing with all-cross AF possible even when a large-diameter F1.2 lens is attached.

Eye Priority AF demonstrates its power during portrait shooting

When used in conjunction with Eye Priority AF on the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, it is possible to capture portraits that are sharply focused on the subject's eyes.

Excellent mobility

Amazingly compact, lightweight system

This large-diameter, maximum aperture F1.2 lens is compact and lightweight. It is approximately 410 g, and when paired with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II it creates an amazingly compact lightweight system at only approximately 984 g.

  • Approx. 1,900 g (Camera Body Full-frame DSLR + 85mm Competitor)
  • Approx. 984 g (OM-D E-M1 Mark II + M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 45mm F1.2 PRO)

Reliable dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof construction

Hermetic sealing across the entire lens results in highly reliable dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof performance. You can feel comfortable shooting anywhere, never worrying about dust, rain, or inclement weather.

Others

Controls that meet the demands of pros

Controls are designed to meet the demands of pros, including a focus ring which provides for comfortable focusing, and an L-Fn button which can be operated as you keep your eye to the viewfinder.

  • The focus ring is wider and placed towards the front of the lens barrel making comfortable focusing possible even when paired with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II.

  • The L-Fn button is positioned along the edge of where the concave design ends, making it easy to locate even with your eye to the viewfinder.
  • The focal length display is larger for easier identification.
  • The Manual Focus Clutch mechanism makes instant switching to manual focus possible by pulling the focusing ring towards you.
